Which paper map do you want me to start on next?

Today Bret and I will finish up the design for Stage 3 (the maze), so that's not ready for paper mapping yet. The only other paper maps we need are for Stages 2, 4, and 6, the neutral zones.

They're not that important and not anywhere near as big as the other stages we made. They're meant to be short passes with nothing too difficult to do. Look at the design document and read the episode summary for more information on what needs to be done in each of them.

You could try your hand at Stage 2 (the first neutral zone). This is going to be a walk through a forest pretty much on a straight path. It's going to go uphill towards the end, leaving the forest and ending on a cliff that overlooks the big labyrinth. From there we want the player to climb down the cliff and move forward toward the maze. This part is going to be just vast empty snow fields. Again, as we discussed this is suppose to be the long trek where you realize that the maze is a lot larger then it looked from the cliff at the top.

You can start on that paper map when you have the time.

Can you give me a quick description of what you want to happen in stages 4 and 6 and the beginging and ending points for both like you did with stage 2?

Stage 4 (2nd Neutral Zone)

1. Very large trees. David will be climbing down from a tree to get out of the maze at the beginning of this zone.

2. Scattered ruins with trees growing onto them (like that quick reference I showed).

3. Begin introducing the icy cliffs. During this Stage there should be more mechanics required--specifically jumping or climbing up things. Once we get to the top of this, introduce the canyon that occurs during Stage 5 (the bridge).

Everything in this zone is frozen and/or covered in snow.

Stage 6

1. Continue climbing icy cliffs. This will start immediately after the bridge section.

2. When we get to the top of the icy cliffs bring back the trees from Stage 2, and do another generic path. Make this one smaller though.

3. This path will be uphill and end at the entrance to the cave. Use ruins at the entrance. The cave entrance is very large, at least 3x David's height and 4x his width. This is the base of the mountain, but the cave is another ancient ruin construction.

Just note that during this foresty path is where the final matinee (cut scene) will occur so we'll be taking control away from the player. There will be no need for any gameplay tasks from the tree part onward.
